Why you can't plant currants and conifers next to each other: you won't be able to avoid problems

Currants are considered one of the most unpretentious plants that can be found in the garden.

However, this crop, like others, is susceptible to various diseases, the most common and dangerous of which, according to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , is rust.

It is for this reason that experts do not recommend planting any coniferous vegetation next to currants.

The thing is that conifers are known to be carriers of a type of rust called columnar rust.

In addition, weeds (primarily marsh vegetation such as sedge) also pose a danger to currants, as they, in turn, carry cup rust.

If you don't want your currants to get rust, make sure to remove last year's leaves and plant debris, as they are an excellent place for the fungal pathogen to find shelter.

The choice of location for planting seedlings is also important.

Try to avoid the idea of planting currants in swampy areas, as well as in areas with close groundwater.

This is due to the fact that high soil humidity is an ideal microclimate in which fungal diseases develop, which, as you may have already understood, include all types of rust.
