Onions have a poorly developed root system, so to obtain a large harvest they are planted in beds with high soil fertility.

The vegetable does not like acidic soil. The optimal pH level for onions is close to the neutral zone.

To ensure an enviable harvest, you need to apply fertilizer throughout the development of the bulbs.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to fertilize vegetables in June.

Plant care

Before applying fertilizer, the bed must be loosened, cleared of weeds and watered with ordinary water.

In June, onions can be fed with organic or mineral fertilizers.

Organic fertilizers

The vegetable will grow emerald greenery and mighty heads if you feed it:

  • mullein infusion (1 bucket of mullein per 6 buckets of water);
  • bird droppings (a bucket for 16-18 buckets of water).

Mineral fertilizers

The following products will replace organic compounds:

  • ammonium nitrate – 20-25 g;
  • superphosphate – 25-30 g;
  • potassium sulfate – 20-25 g.

To ensure that the bulbs ripen better, fertilizing and watering are stopped 20-25 days before harvesting. The fruits are dug up when the bulbs are covered with scales and the neck is thin. At this point, the feather lies on the ground.
