A light appetizer, a spicy soup or a summer casserole – all these are dishes with tomatoes that will become a real decoration of the table.
Many plot owners, in order not to buy tomatoes in the store, grow them themselves. But they often face various difficulties. Among them is late blight.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to protect tomatoes from this fungal disease.
1. Weed your garden regularly to remove weeds. They can become a source of infection.
2. Perform preventive spraying with copper-containing preparations. Copper prevents the development of fungal diseases, including late blight.
3. Follow crop rotation rules and do not plant tomatoes in the same place for more than two years in a row.
4. Water tomatoes only at the roots, avoiding the leaves. Excess moisture can promote the development of fungal diseases.
5. Do not allow the plantings to become too dense and remove the side shoots in time. This will help prevent the spread of infection and improve ventilation of the plants.
6. Do not overfeed tomatoes with fertilizers, especially nitrogen ones. Excess nitrogen promotes the development of fungal infections, including late blight.
Special preparations are used to combat late blight. For example, copper-based preparations are used - "Fundazol" or Bordeaux mixture.
By following these tips, you can protect your tomatoes from late blight and get a good harvest.
