The mole cricket will forget the way to the beds: what kind of solution do summer residents use

Who among summer residents has not heard about the mole cricket - it is a real predator in the world of insects. A sure sign that the parasite is already in the beds is falling plants.

The pest destroys plantings from underground, and is equally interested in both young shoots and adult plants.

The mole cricket feeds on plant roots, root crops and, of course, leaves offspring.

Signs of a pest

If plants appear in the garden lying on the ground, without signs of disease or wilting, and their roots are eaten or completely missing, this is the work of the mole cricket.

A secondary sign is holes and underground passages near the former plant. And in the evenings you can hear the chirping of an insect in the beds, which is often mistaken for the songs of a grasshopper.

How to fight

You can use chemicals, but there is a safer and no less effective option.

1. Irrigation. The pest can leave its shelter if you fill its hole with an aqueous solution of iodine. Summer residents claim that the mole cricket does not like its smell. For 10 liters of water, you will need 20 drops of iodine and a glass of vegetable oil.

The solution is poured around the perimeter of the garden bed where the mole cricket may be hiding, into a prepared furrow.

All that remains is to wait 5 minutes and the pest will crawl out, after which it can be caught and destroyed. There is another option.

2. Trap. It is better to use both options. To do this, bury a glass jar with a capacity of at least 1 liter in the ground. Use honey (1 teaspoon) as bait. Cover the neck with plywood, leave a hole for the pest, and sprinkle mulch on top of the structure.

The pest will not be able to get out along the vertical glass walls, and the plywood will prevent it from flying out.
