Many summer residents do not understand why it is necessary to install supports for cucumbers, because in the past our grandmothers managed without this.
Opponents of tying believe that it is enough to spread the cucumber out and you can collect huge harvests - it is enough to chop it into a salad, pickle it, marinate it, and throw it as food for chickens.
But there are supporters of the idea that cucumbers need support. Thus, two opposing opinions appeared, which lead novice gardeners into a dead end.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about the advantages of tying.
Tying up is, first of all, convenient for the summer residents themselves. Thanks to the supports, the fruits are always in sight, there is no need to sort through the cucumber plant in search of ripe cucumbers.
When the fruits are always in sight, it is easier to find them and protect them from overgrowing. The process of collecting a new batch of crops takes 2-3 times less time.
It is quite easy to miss 3-5 or a couple of dozen cucumbers (depending on the size of the bed), which will lie on the ground and take away additional nutrients. The plant's yield will decrease, i.e. the fruits will be large, but there will be fewer of them.
Overgrown cucumbers have never enjoyed great popularity in cooking – they are flabby, tasteless and have tough skin.
