A small plant, reminiscent of a strawberry bush in structure (only the leaves have a slightly different shape), will certainly appeal to all connoisseurs of beauty.
We are talking about lunaria, or, as it is also called, moon violet, moon grass or simply moonwort.
Its flowers, which are white and purple, resemble phlox with their four-petal inflorescences.
Flowering begins in May – then the entire bush is simply covered with flowers, emitting a pleasant sweetish aroma.
However, that is not all that is remarkable about the lunaria. After the plant has finished flowering, round pods form on the stems.
At first they are green in color, but after some time they change color to white.
The pods are so thin that you can see the translucent seeds through them. And just as the bush was covered with flowers during flowering, now it is completely covered with these white pods.
It is for this reason that the lunar violet was nicknamed the Pope's currency - they are very reminiscent of coins. We do not know whether this is true or not, but many believe that a lunaria full of "coins" protects against financial problems.
