Soon after the snow melts, the vegetable garden and orchard are quickly taken over by weeds.
Experienced gardeners do not miss the chance to make weeds their allies. They can be very useful, but it is important to do it correctly.
The first "harvest" of weeds consists of nettles, goutweed, chickweed, dandelions and a number of other plants.
You can’t leave them on the site, but using them as raw material for fertilizer is an ideal option.
To prepare the nutrient composition, use a plastic barrel. Put all the greens in it, filling the container to 2/3 of its volume.
Then the raw material is completely filled with water and covered with a lid. You can simply tighten the neck with film. The barrel should be placed in the sunniest place.
Fermentation will begin in about 4-5 days. Intense foam on the surface will signal that the fertilizer is ready. This fertilizer contains the so-called "big three": nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus.
The fertilizer can be used as a top dressing for plants in a greenhouse and open ground. But it is not used in its pure form, but diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10.
Some gardeners, trying to improve the already excellent fertilizer, add various ingredients to the barrel: biopreparations, ammonia, sugar. But agronomists do not recommend supplementing green fertilizer with other components.
