The end of April and the beginning of May is the period when many gardeners are planting onion sets.

Therefore, now is the time to refresh your memory on the basic rules of plant care.

The first fundamental point is the preliminary treatment of planting material.

If you refuse to soak the onion sets, you can lose the onion harvest, since the garden crop will be very vulnerable to various diseases and pests.

But what kind of liquids exactly should the bulbs end up in?

Salt water

First, the onion sets need to be “salted”.

It is clear that to prepare the product you need to dissolve table salt in a clean liquid.

It is important to remember the correct ratio of components. Thus, there should be only one tablespoon of sodium chloride per liter of water.

The bulbs should lie in the prepared solution for three hours.

Potassium permanganate solution

After completing the treatment of onion sets in salt water, the planting material must be dipped in a solution of potassium permanganate.

There should be between three and ten grams of the substance per liter of liquid component.

The onion sets should be kept in the resulting liquid for a couple of hours. After the procedure is complete, the bulbs should be doused with clean water.

If everything was done correctly, the garden crop will acquire maximum protection from diseases and dangerous insects.
