There is nothing worse for summer residents than growing several baskets of bitter cucumbers, which are impossible to eat even with salt and sauce.
Gardeners try to make sure that cucumbers do not suffer from thirst, but do not die from stagnant water. They feed them, loosen the soil and hope that the harvest will exceed all expectations.
But sometimes it's not the care, but the variety. There are varieties that are bitter by themselves, and improper care only makes it worse.
Experienced gardeners have identified varieties that most often disappoint with an unpleasant taste. With them, any minor mistake has fatal consequences.
When the environment creates stressful conditions for cucumbers, they accumulate a protective substance that causes bitterness. This most often occurs in old varieties, such as "Konkurent" and "Altai".
Modern varieties are not bitter. Experts advise to take first generation hybrids and self-pollinating ones.
