Large single flowers and a wide range of colors have made petunias popular among amateur gardeners.
In order for the flower to turn into a bush, it is necessary to pinch the petunia. The procedure is carried out when the plant has 5-6 leaves.
Use sharp scissors, disinfected before work. Cut off part of the stem above the 4-5 leaf. When the length of the emerging lateral shoots is 10-15 cm, the procedure is repeated.
A decrease in night temperature stimulates the awakening and development of lateral stems. Therefore, flower growers recommend taking petunias out onto a closed balcony at night.
However, gardeners warned that it is not worth overdoing it with pinching, since frequent pruning can exhaust the plant, and this is fraught with weak flowering.
If this happens, the petunia needs to be fed. For example, very thin stems may indicate the need to apply fertilizer. Fertilizing will help the plant gain strength before flowering.
