An experienced gardener has revealed some secrets of growing orchids at home.
British gardener Claire Bishop told what needs to be done to ensure the health and flowering of orchids.
There are several basic rules, compliance with which will ensure the correct development of the plant.
1. The florist pointed out that the plant will be healthy and beautiful if it does not receive too much light. In this matter, it is necessary to find a "golden mean" when the orchid will not die under direct sunlight, but will not wither in the shade.
Bishop noted that sunlight can cause burns to leaves and petals. Therefore, the plant should be placed away from a southern window or the orchid should be removed for the period when sunlight hits the windowsill.
2. The expert advised watering orchids only if the substrate chosen for them has dried out, Express reports. The soil should be porous and protect the roots from excessive tangling.
3. Bishop recommended feeding orchids from March to September, and giving them time to rest from October to February.
4. The optimal air temperature for orchids is within the range of +15 …+20 °C.
