When to plant spring garlic: timing, soil preparation and why it is better than winter garlic

Even an inexperienced gardener can plant spring garlic, but even here there are nuances, without which nothing will work.
The first thing that interests gardeners is when spring garlic can be planted.
Planting dates
The vegetable is planted in mid-April – early May, when the constant soil temperature is not lower than +5 ... +10 °C.
The timing can be adjusted based on the climate of a particular region, but it is important to consider the vegetation period of spring garlic. And it is longer than winter garlic – 90-100 days versus 75-90.
Soil preparation
A bed for spring garlic should be sunny, protected from drafts, and ideally on a hill. The best soil for it is light loam with neutral acidity (pH ≈6.5-7.0).
If the soil is acidified, lime, dolomite flour or chalk are added. If the indicator is in the alkaline zone, the soil is sprinkled with ash.
A plot where tomatoes or potatoes were grown last season is not suitable for spring garlic. If bulbous plants were grown there in the last 3-4 years, it is better to look for another place for garlic.
Good predecessors are cabbage, legumes, cucumbers, melons, mustard, and phacelia.
Spring and winter garlic
Winter garlic is an early crop. Its difference from spring garlic lies in its taste. It is sharper and more pungent. Winter garlic is famous for its larger heads.
Spring garlic has smaller cloves, but the taste is not as aggressive, more juiciness and aroma.
