Which crop seeds need to be soaked before planting and which do not

Soaking seeds depends on the crop that will be grown.

For example, tomato seeds need to be soaked and hardened before planting in the ground.

To harden the seeds, place them in the refrigerator and then keep them at room temperature.

When growing peppers, keep in mind that their seeds have a thin shell. Therefore, they need to be germinated in advance, otherwise the first shoots will appear no earlier than in 20 days.

Celery, parsley, carrots should be placed in a cloth bag and washed with hot water for 20 minutes. Then leave for 2-3 days in a damp bag, and then dry and plant in the ground.

Everbearing strawberries should not be soaked. Sowing is done by spreading seeds on the surface of the earth. Then they should be sprinkled with soil on top. Strawberry seeds are small, and the shoots that germinate are thin and delicate.

Beets are soaked and sprouted if sowing is done late, when the soil has already warmed up well. To sow beets in the spring, the seeds must be dry.

Peas, beans, and legumes also do not need to be sprouted when planted early, but it is better to sprout them when planted late.

Cucumbers, pumpkins, squash and pattypan squash need to be sprouted to increase the chances of germination. But lettuce, cabbage and rutabagas need to be sown dry.
