How to Get a Decent Carrot Harvest: Here's What to Do with the Seeds

Many summer residents are sure that without preliminary seed preparation, a good carrot harvest is as unlikely as the back of your hand.

Therefore, in January-February, gardeners transfer the seed material to the refrigerator or even send it for temporary storage on an unheated veranda at sub-zero temperatures.

This is how stratification is achieved, which is necessary not only for carrot seeds, but also for parsley, nigella on sets, and dill.

But that's not all - 2 weeks before you plan to sow these crops, they need to be returned back into the warmth.

Leave the grains to stabilize at room temperature for about 5-6 hours, then transfer them to a cloth bag and immerse them in warm water (40 degrees) for 4-5 days.

The water can be changed, the main thing is that the liquid is at room temperature (not higher than +25 degrees).

After 3 days, don't be lazy and check the seeds - they should hatch, but not germinate yet. To avoid risks, on the fourth day, remove the seed material and put it in the snow or, if you don't have one, in the refrigerator. It will have to stay here for another 8-9 days.

All that remains is to dry the seeds in a warm place until they become crumbly, and without delay, begin sowing.
