Which cucumber seeds to choose for sowing – varietal or hybrid: your neighbor won’t tell you about this

Beginning gardeners have to make a choice about which plant seeds to purchase for sowing seedlings.

You have to choose between varietal crops and hybrids. And few people know that both types of seeds have a number of advantages. We will tell you about the advantages of each type.

Certainly, hybrids have a clear advantage over varietal seeds, with one exception.

Hybrids

Vegetables grown from these seeds are not at all dangerous to health and should not be confused with GMOs.

As for the reasons to buy hybrids, here are some reasons why they deserve attention:

• hybrids are distinguished by excellent productivity;
• resistant to common diseases;
• an equal number of male and female flowers develop on the vines;
• the growing season is relatively short;
• resistant to adverse weather conditions.

There is one drawback in this context, and it is almost insignificant: you should not collect seeds from hybrids. There will be no sense in them.

Varietal crops

The main advantage is that the collected seeds from these vegetables will retain their varietal qualities for several generations. And, apart from the fact that varietal cucumbers tolerate heat well, they have no other advantages.

If we talk about disadvantages, then varietal plants do not have such an enviable resistance to popular diseases as hybrids.

If we talk about yield, then with proper care, varietal cucumbers will bear fruit no worse than hybrid ones.
