How to Properly Treat Currants with Boiling Water: Mistakes That Make the Procedure Useless and Harmful

Some summer residents still believe that trees are whitewashed to protect them from pests, and currants are doused with boiling water to wake them up in the spring.

This happens when gardeners simply repeat someone else's actions without going into details. This is what will happen if you unsuccessfully pour boiling water on currants.

This procedure is useful for the bush and allows you to fight the main wintering pest - the tick. Only then is it a stimulating procedure.

These are the mistakes that summer residents make in the spring when pouring hot water on currants.

1. Water temperature

It should not be boiling water, but hot water within 60-80 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, you can simply scald the shoots. If the temperature is lower, the pests will not feel anything.

2. Processing process

The entire volume of water is poured onto one bush at a time. Beforehand, the shoots must be tied with twine so that the water flow reaches each branch. A bucket of water must be poured onto the bush within 5 seconds so as not to harm the buds and bark.

3. Don't forget about the roots

One bucket of water per bush is enough. If you pour more, you will not be able to avoid burning the root system, after which the bush will take a long time to recover, and not bear fruit. In order not to cause harm, it is better to pour water from a watering can.

4. Processing period

After the buds have opened, the treatment cannot be carried out. They should be closed, and the color may begin to change to greenish.
