  • what type of garlic do you want to plant;
  • what was growing in your garden before;
  • soil feature.

Only a balanced consideration of all factors will allow you to achieve a good garlic harvest.

Garlic prefers to grow in fertile soil: be it loam or super sandy soil containing organic matter.

The crop will not like acidic soil. The soil should retain moisture, but not allow it to stagnate.

If water lingers and accumulates in the depressions of the area, the garlic heads may rot.

How to feed garlic

A properly selected fertilizer scheme for garlic will help you to harvest a high-quality and large crop.

Nitrogen-containing fertilizers

They are added when the first shoots begin to break through and until the moment when the bulb is formed.

For spring feeding, use a mixture in the proportion of 1 part nitrogen fertilizer to 2 parts phosphorus fertilizer.

Phosphorus-potassium fertilizers

They are applied throughout the growing season. This will help the garlic grow and develop quickly.

As you know, phosphorus is necessary:

  • for the full development of the above-ground part;
  • maturation of the head;
  • saturating the cloves with useful substances.

If you notice that the leaves have started to turn yellow or wither prematurely, then be sure to use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.
