Experienced gardeners have long understood the benefits of green manure and its proper use.
Taking into account the rules of crop rotation, it is possible to solve a number of problems, refuse to apply manure before planting potatoes and not lose any harvest.
Before planting potatoes, you need to remember the two main problems that gardeners encounter along the way.
The first enemy of potatoes is pests, the second is diseases. The results of potato infection may not be so noticeable, but they will remind you of themselves later during storage of the harvest or cooking.
You can cope with these complications by sowing green manure. It will stop the invasion of pests, improve the health of the soil and its structure.
The best options for sowing in a future potato bed are legumes (not only peas, beans and kidney beans, but also clover and lupine), and from cruciferous plants - mustard, rapeseed and radish.
Planting flax or phacelia gives excellent results.
But there is an opinion that even more impressive results can be achieved by sowing mixtures instead of monocultures.
The best option is a mixture of peas and oats (barley). Good results are obtained by sowing phacelia with mustard (against wireworm), as well as alfalfa, vetch and sweet clover, which will fertilize the soil no worse than manure.
