Everyone is familiar with ivy with its usual carved and green leaves. But there are many varieties of this unpretentious plant that amaze with their diversity and beauty.

For example, Canary ivy is distinguished by leaves that have large white spots.

Some species have variegated leaves, and Hoya ivy has an oval shape. But no matter what species or variety grows at home, you want it to grow abundant, lush foliage. And this is already the owner's task.

How to Ensure Abundant Greenery

In order for ivy to grow actively, it needs good care. It is an unpretentious plant, so many people plant it and "forget" about it. Yes, it is unlikely to die in unfavorable conditions, but it will not please with beauty either.

Lighting

The biggest misconception is that ivy loves shade. It can often be seen in the back of a room where there is little sunlight. Yes, this plant creeps along the ground in forests and tolerates shade. But do not forget that the southern lack of light (and ivy grows in southern regions) and the northern lack of light are different things.

It should also be remembered that as soon as the vines reach some support, such as a wall or a tree, they rush upward, that is, towards the sun. Nature has provided the ability of this plant to find the best lighting for itself.

Therefore, if you want a lush green cap of leaves, keep the plant in good light. For example, hanging it on a southern window.

Interesting fact: in Ancient Greece, it was believed that ivy warded off evil spirits.

Landing

To make the bush lush, you need to plant several cuttings. You can simply sprinkle the top of the vine in the pot with soil, wait until it takes root, and trim.

The cut off part will release a new top, and the rooted part will continue to grow on its own. You can also put the tops in water after cutting, and when they put out roots, plant them in a pot.

Note: you can plant different types of ivy in one container, thus creating an interesting composition.

Top dressing

In spring and summer, the plant needs additional feeding. Especially if it has not been replanted for several years. Nitrogen is needed to build up green mass, so choose fertilizers that contain it in sufficient quantities (at least 10%). It is better to give preference to complex fertilizers, which, in addition to nitrogen, potassium and magnesium, contain microelements.

Important: fertilizing is carried out only on damp soil.

Remember that it is better to reduce the dose recommended by the manufacturer by 2 times. Excessive fertilizing causes salinization of the soil in the pot, which negatively affects the development of the plant.
