The reaction to the fact that a rose bush begins to turn into a rosehip is ambiguous. On the one hand, the rosehip blooms not much worse than roses, and then the useful fruits remain.

But on the other hand, a varietal rose should remain as such, because, no matter how you look at it, a wild rose will never become a rose.

Is it possible to stop the process and prevent the rose from turning into a wild plant? Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, a scientist-agronomist, landscape designer, botanical artist, and art therapist, told the online publication Belnovosti.

Reasons for degeneration

Firstly, these are not always agricultural errors. Roses love warmth, and adaptation to difficult climatic conditions turns a varietal plant into a rosehip.

Secondly, you can make a mistake during grafting, when the rootstock and scion are incompatible, or choose an unsuccessful place for grafting.

Thirdly, if roses are pruned incorrectly and watered out of schedule, fungal diseases and insects can contribute.

Signs of rebirth

1. The color of young shoots may change. You may also notice changes in the length of the thorns (the rose has longer ones).

2. Rose leaves are waxy and rounded. Rose hips have matte and oblong leaves.

3. But it is impossible to distinguish a wild rose by the number of leaf blades. There are varieties that have 7 and 9 leaves.

How to stop

First, you need to dig up the soil around the roots and clear the area with the undergrowth.

Anything that resembles rosehip shoots is cut at the root, processed, allowed to dry, and then covered with soil.

On the fifth day, foliar feeding with superphosphate should be carried out.

The rest of the time, you need to monitor the shoots and remove them until the growth of rosehip shoots stops. And shoots can appear not only under the bush, but also at a distance of up to 2-3 meters. They also need to be cut out.
