Juicy and sweet grapes will grow on their own – the gardener only needs to take care of the condition of the vine

If you consider grapes as a shelter from the scorching sun rays above a garden gazebo, then the harvest in this case is mediocre.

It is not worth cultivating varietal vines in this way, especially if the seller promised that the berries would be juicy and sweet.

Here you just need to help the plant a little, and it will thank you at the end of the season. Here's how experienced winegrowers cover the vine for the winter and how they remove the cover.

1. Grapes need to be covered for the winter. This is done in case there is little snow and severe frosts. If the temperature drops to minus 10-15 degrees, the soil can freeze to a depth of 30-40 centimeters.

2. To reduce the need for disease treatments, you need to first tidy up the trunk area. The grapes are covered for the winter after the remaining vegetation has been removed. Pests and pathogens can overwinter in them, and with too much cover the vines risk rotting during a thaw.

3. The shelter is not opened immediately in the spring. Everything begins with preliminary airing.

It is important that the vines remain covered in case of recurrent frosts.

The cover is finally removed when the air temperature remains at least 10 degrees Celsius for several days.
