How to protect seedlings from midges and their larvae: a pinch of this product will drive out pests
Hobby gardeners claim that polystyrene foam supposedly protects seedlings from midges, but experts are ready to challenge this opinion.
The trick failed the test and turned out to be useless. Many summer residents have already seen this and found a more effective method.
Midges are not as dangerous to plants as their larvae. The latter develop underground, feeding on the roots of seedlings. Such seedlings wither before our eyes and are unlikely to survive to open ground.
An expert of the online publication " Belnovosti ", an agronomist and the author of the blog "Conscious Gardening" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told which method really helps to protect seedlings from midges and larvae.
It is important to remember that winged insects are attracted by high humidity. If midges are circling over the flowerpot, it means that the soil needs to be dried out.
Instead of polystyrene foam, the expert advises using salt. A salty environment is destructive for midges. It is enough to lightly sprinkle the soil. You should not waste several spoons on this. You can take it as for a regular salad.
During watering, the salt will dissolve and go into the soil. The larvae will die and the number of midges will decrease to zero. It is enough to sprinkle salt once, and then water 1-2 times.
