The main mistake inexperienced gardeners make when preparing compost: the result is a wet and smelly substance

The benefits of compost, which is a natural organic fertilizer, are probably known to all summer residents.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh named the main mistake due to which the composting process ends in failure.

As you know, any compost contains green and brown residues.

Green mass for compost is represented by plant remains, mown grass, fruit and vegetable waste. This also includes used tea leaves, i.e. components that contain a large amount of nitrogen.

The brown mass, in turn, consists of fallen leaves, straw, bark and wood shavings, as well as branches. Paper and cardboard go in the same "stack".

Normal compost maturation can only occur if the green and brown components are in the correct ratio: 1 part green components and 2 parts brown.

If you overdo it with green waste, you will end up with a mushy mass that gives off a strong stench.

If you include too many brown components in the compost, the rate of decomposition of the mass will slow down significantly.
