Should You Throw Snow Into Your Greenhouse in Early Spring: Benefit or Waste of Time

There is one tradition common among gardeners that makes experts skeptical.

The action consists of throwing a little frozen precipitation into the greenhouse during the period of snow melting in the spring.

This procedure is believed to revitalize the soil, saturate it with moisture and nutrients.

But experts believe that this approach is fundamentally wrong. It reduces the value of the greenhouse, depriving it of its main purpose.

The soil warms up faster in a greenhouse, so you can plant there earlier than in open ground. Because of the snow, you will have to wait with planting until it melts, and then the excess moisture goes away.

The procedure does not play a special role for the soil. To revive the soil before the start of the season, it is better to water it with melt water. But it is important to remember that there is enough moisture in the spring.

To start the season without delay, it is better not to throw snow into the greenhouse. You just need to wait until the spring sun warms the soil. Planting can safely begin when the soil temperature reaches +15 °C.
