The most important thing when choosing seeds for planting seedlings is to make a choice not based on the picture, which has nothing in common with the contents of the package and the future harvest.
This is what experienced gardeners are guided by when shopping at the seed shelf in a gardening store.
The main thing is personal experience and preferences. If you are attracted by a bright picture on the package, then the choice is not conscious. It is better to buy what has already been tested on the plot. In addition, the following information should be indicated on the seed packet:
- about the ripening period,
- resistance to weather conditions,
- crop quality and storage life
- production date and shelf life.
As for the manufacturer, preference should be given to agricultural firms or products presented by industry research institutes.
But before heading to the store, you should check your supplies. Perishables include:
Seeds can be stored at home for up to three years:
Legumes (peas, beans, beans) retain their germination capacity for up to 5-6 years, tomatoes, cabbage and pumpkin for up to 4-5 years.
They say about cucumbers that the seeds do not lose their germination capacity for 3-4 years, but according to gardeners’ observations, some varieties can be stored for 8 years.
This should be a room where the constant temperature is around 10-15 degrees Celsius. Air humidity is around 40-50%. But even in this case, the seed packets should be stored in a container.
