How to determine air humidity in an apartment without devices: a note for gardeners

One of the key criteria that allows you to grow strong seedlings, which will give you a rich harvest in the future, is the humidity in the room.

As is known, in winter, due to heating devices, this indicator drops, which negatively affects the growth of crops.

Not every summer resident can afford to buy a hygrometer or other device, so we will tell you how to track fluctuations.

Air humidity in the apartment

It is worth noting that there are standards and requirements for this, defined by GOST. This should also be kept in mind before creating comfortable conditions for exotic crops in the apartment.

In winter it is 30-45%, and in summer 30-60%. But the figures of 60% and 65% in winter and summer, respectively, are considered to be excessive.

These parameters vary in different rooms. For example, in the living room, bathroom and kitchen it is 40-60%, in the bedroom 40-50%, and in the children's room 45-60%.

How to measure

1. Fill a glass with water, put it in the refrigerator for three hours, and then place it away from heating devices. If condensation does not appear after 5-10 minutes, then the humidity is within the normal range. If abundant condensation appears, then the indicator is exceeded.

2. Take a pine cone and place it away from heating devices. If after a couple of hours the scales have shrunk, it means the humidity is high; if they have opened, the air is dry.

3. Another option with linen. You can simply track how quickly the washed linen dries in the apartment. If the process takes 1.5 hours or less, then the air humidity level is low.

If you have synthetic clothing, it will become very electrified in dry air.

And finally, if the air in the apartment is excessively dry, then the leaves of indoor plants will be the first to react – their tips will turn yellow and begin to dry out.
