Fighting the Colorado Potato Beetle: Products You Haven't Tried Yet
The personified evil on earth, according to gardeners, has the form of the Colorado potato beetle. Incredibly prolific, voracious, adapts even to pesticides. What can we say about folk developments.
However, chemistry is not the only thing in the world. Recently, biopreparations have been gaining popularity.
The Colorado potato beetle is mercilessly exterminated by all possible means. At the dawn of gardening, when it became clear that there was no escape from the pest, summer residents showed incredible cruelty: they boiled the collected insects in a bucket of water, after which they sprayed their plantings with this abomination, hoping that the beetle would go away on its own. To the surprise of many, the decoction did not work.
Since then, the situation has not changed radically and the fight is going on with a clear advantage in favor of the pest. But there is progress among biological developments.
Biopreparations
The preparations are based on pathogenic organisms and bacteria that pose a mortal danger to insects. A huge plus - unlike chemicals, developments with the prefix "Bio" are safe for the environment, and therefore, for the harvest and health.
But it is not without its downsides - the drug cannot affect the beetle's egg-laying. But among the larvae and adults, a general death occurs.
Of these, it is worth paying attention to:
- Agravertin (non-addictive and can be used repeatedly)
- Fitoverm (becomes less effective due to sun and moisture, and the beetle gets used to it),
- Bitoxybacillin (can be used together with other biodevelopments),
- Boverin (pests will die within a month after treatment),
- Nemabakt (penetrates the soil and destroys larvae),
- Natur Gard (also effective against aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, and other parasites),
- Entocide (works even when the beetle is dormant).
The only significant drawback of biological preparations is that they are only effective when processed at a temperature of at least 10 degrees Celsius.
