Leaf lettuce is one of the types of vitamin-rich greens that can be grown in a garden bed in early spring or even on a windowsill.

Few people know, but there are as many as three methods of planting it. We will tell you more about each, and at the same time about the advantages that will allow you to sow seeds until autumn.

Precision seeding

Suitable for sowing a limited number of seeds. Preliminary preparation is required. To do this, soak the seeds in an ash infusion for a day (2 tablespoons of ash per 150 ml of water, leave for 2 days, strain). After that, immerse the seeds in the solution for 24 hours, and then sow them in holes to a depth of 2 cm. Leafy ones at intervals of 5-6 cm, semi-headed ones 8-10 cm, headed ones 15-20 cm.

Semi-seedling method

This method is used by all who want to harvest a large crop early. The seeds are also processed as in the first case, then they are planted at a depth of no more than 3 cm. After the first leaves appear, the seedlings are taken out along with the soil and transplanted into furrows in the garden bed. Suitable for the varieties "Major", "Tango", "Zador". The distance between seedlings is not less than 20 cm.

Thickened sowing

The seeds are sown on prepared soil at a distance of 3 cm, leaving 10 cm between rows.

In this case, the seeds are not soaked. It is important to choose varieties that are not susceptible to bolting. Thinning is not required, and the first harvest will appear in 5 weeks.
