Fruit fertilizer for indoor plants: and you won't have to throw away the peels

Few amateur gardeners know that the peels of oranges, tangerines and even bananas can be used as an effective natural fertilizer.

Belnovosti online publication expert, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about the lengths to which seasoned gardeners go in an effort to “feed” their green charges.

To prepare a citrus-based fertilizer, grind the peels and place them in a liter jar, filling the container about a third full.

When everything is ready, fill the jar to the top with boiling water and set it aside for a day so that the future fertilizer can properly infuse.

After the specified time, fish out the peel from the container and add clean water again. Now the infusion can be used for watering.

A similar feed is prepared using the peels left over from eating bananas.

Fill a liter jar halfway with crushed peelings and add water.

After 24 hours, strain the mixture and add water to fill the jar. Do not throw away the banana peel – it can be added to the soil substrate when replanting plants.
