Those who have dollars from 1990-1996 predicted problems
Russians abroad are increasingly being denied the exchange of old-style dollars.
Now in Egypt, Turkey, Armenia, the UAE, Thailand and other countries popular with tourists, only “blue” dollar bills in perfect condition are accepted.

Why old dollars are not accepted abroad
As ATOR Vice President Artur Muradyan explained, neither the US Treasury nor the Federal Reserve System made any announcements about problems with accepting cash dollars, and old dollars were not withdrawn from circulation.
It is absolutely unclear what happened to the dollar, he stated.
According to Muradyan, there is a version that old dollars have become more frequently counterfeited.
But these are just assumptions, added the ATOR vice president.
He noted that the problem arose last year. This year, the number of complaints has decreased, but not because the situation has improved, but because travel agents have started warning clients.
Associate Professor of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Petr Shcherbachenko warned that tourists with dollars issued in 1990-1996 will have the hardest time abroad.
In Malaysia, Bali and Georgia there will be maximum problems with them, the expert said.
