Recently, the Council of Ministers of Belarus introduced licensing for the export of apples, onions and white cabbage.

The Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, Alexey Bogdanov, explained why this decision was made.

Why licensing of apple, onion and cabbage exports was introduced

According to the Council of Ministers’ resolution, the export of apples, onions and cabbage will be carried out under one-time licenses issued by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade in agreement with regional executive committees (Minsk City Executive Committee).

The decision on the possibility of issuing a license will be made by authorized bodies based on an assessment of the ratio of free resources of the product and the country's need for it. Licensing has been introduced for 3 months.

As Bogdanov said in an interview with the First Information TV channel, Belarus traditionally provides itself with a large quantity of fruits and vegetables.

Both in the West and in the East, the minister continued, there is a crop failure, so uncontrolled export may occur. In connection with this, licensing was introduced.

The Minister reminded that licensing is not a ban on exports, but a controlled export system.

The task set by the head of state is, first and foremost, to provide for our population, said the head of the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, noting that it is not difficult to obtain an export license.
