Belarus records deflation: what has become cheaper and what has become more expensive

In the last month of summer 2024, deflation was recorded in Belarus.

In particular, the consumer price index for goods and services in August compared to July was 99.1%.

However, compared to December last year, it has grown – the growth was 3.4%.

The National Statistical Committee, which conducted the relevant calculations, shared this data with Belarusians.

The agency also reported on the indicator of the core consumer price index (which excludes price adjustments for individual goods and services that are influenced by administrative and seasonal factors).

This figure for August compared to the previous month was 0.4%, compared to December 2023 – 3.6%.

Belstat notes: in the last month of summer, food products became 0.3% cheaper (compared to July).

However, food products have become more expensive (+3.2%) compared to December of last year.

The consumer price index for non-food products increased by 0.1% compared to July and by 2.8% compared to December 2023.

In August, services in the country increased in price by 0.2% compared to July, and by 4.3% compared to December of last year.
