How to furnish a one-room apartment: it's not a death sentence

Owners of one-room apartments often face the problem of lack of space for comfortable living.
However, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino is sure: with the right approach and the use of various methods of zoning space, it is possible to create a cozy and functional home, even if we are talking about a small Khrushchev-era apartment.
Use the alcove
If you got an apartment with a non-standard layout, do not despair. Such premises have their advantages, which include the presence of a niche or alcove in the wall.
In this secluded corner you can arrange a sleeping place, and install a work desk next to it, thus combining the rest and work areas.
Use the rest of the space for the kitchen and living room. They can be separate or combined - it all depends on the original layout of your home.
Make a podium
A podium is a great solution for small apartments, especially if you make it multifunctional and equip it with drawers. You can put a bed and a desk on the podium, visually dividing the room into zones without losing square meters. You won’t be able to achieve this effect if you install an additional wall.
It is important to remember that a podium reduces the height of the room, so if your apartment has low ceilings, this option may not be practical, since in this case it will look like a niche in the wall, and not a full-fledged room.
Take care of the balcony
If you are lucky and have an insulated loggia or balcony in your apartment, get rid of the junk stored there, tidy it up and use it for your needs.
As a result, there will be space in the apartment for the necessary furniture (for example, you can get a full-size bed instead of a sofa).
