The eternal question that torments citizens choosing stretch ceilings: which one is better - glossy or matte?
Both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of functionality and room design.
The expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino , spoke about the pros and cons of matte and stretch ceilings.
Such stretch ceilings are made from textile fabrics, classic PVC film or Cold Stretch PVC film.
The texture is rough, somewhat reminiscent of plaster.
Since the coating does not glare, does not reflect light and objects in the room, it does not affect the brightness of the lighting and does not strain the eyes.
As for colors, white and pastel colors are mainly used in such ceilings.
Matte ceilings are best suited for a bedroom, study, guest room or children's room.
However, they are more expensive than their glossy counterparts. On average, they are 10-15 percent more expensive.
Among the advantages of a matte ceiling, the designer noted that it looks more aesthetically pleasing in the room, and, as a rule, seams are not visible on it.
You can draw, apply photos or prints on the coating.
Compared to glossy, matte ceilings have a denser material.
Also, the matte ceiling is resistant to temperature changes and has a longer service life.
Other advantages: no streaks are visible after washing, does not fade in the sun.
The coating gets dirty quickly, the structure is porous, which is why dirt and dust accumulate.
You should use special products for washing the ceiling, and you should work extremely carefully so as not to damage the coating.
Matte ceilings have only pastel shades, bright ones are absent.
Another disadvantage: low resistance to moisture, which makes such a ceiling unsuitable, for example, for a bathroom.
They are made mainly from elastic PVC film coated with a special solution.
They have a mirror reflection effect, which visually increases the space.
For this reason, it is recommended to install such ceilings in small rooms, for example, in the kitchen, loggia or bathroom.
Unlike matte ceilings, glossy ceilings can boast a large number of colors and shades, which helps to create virtually any interior design.
High strength, lower cost compared to matte ceilings, moisture resistance, long service life (without replacement - up to 15 years).
It is also important that the smoothness of the ceiling makes it easy to maintain and dust does not accumulate.
Disadvantages: if the temperature drops sharply, the film of such a ceiling may crack.
In large rooms, joints on the ceiling are visible, which spoils the overall appearance of your room.
Reflections of light from street lamps, car headlights or light from windows opposite at night interfere with sleep.
The canvas may become deformed when heated by a high-power incandescent lamp, which may cause the ceiling to sag.
