Legendary musician Sergio Mendes, performer of the hit Mas Que Nada, has died

The outstanding Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes has passed away.

This man did a lot to popularize such an interesting musical genre as bossa nova.

Mendes died at the age of 84.

The death of the pianist and arranger was reported by TASS, citing one of the foreign media outlets. The sad news appeared on September 6.

The future legend of bossa nova was born in February 1941 in the municipality of Niteroi in Brazil.

Mendes began his musical career in his youth.

In the early sixties he formed a group called Sexteto Bossa Rio .

The band's first album was released in 1961.

Soon after, the musician went on tour in the United States and European countries.

In 1991, Mendes' album Brasileiro was released. Thanks to this record, the musician became the winner of the prestigious Grammy Award.

And in 2012, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song. We are talking about the composition Real in Rio for the animated film Rio.

One of the most striking moments in Mendes' creative biography is the performance of the song Mas Que Nada together with the popular American group The Black Eyed Peas . The single was released in 2006. The composition, a cover of the song by Jorge Ben Jor, became a worldwide hit.
