Starch is a popular ingredient that thickens dishes or makes them crispier. If you don’t have one on hand, you should find an alternative.

For example, you can use a few tablespoons of baking powder for breading.

As experienced cooks note, for batter calculated for 400-500 g of vegetables, meat or fish, it is enough to take only 1-2 spoons of baking powder.

Some of the starch is also used to make sauces.

Here it is easy to replace it with regular flour. But it is better to take it twice as much as starch. It can be pre-fried until golden brown in a dry frying pan.

If you don't want the sauce to be too thick, you can use cream, butter, or even a little grated cheese. This will add more flavor and texture to the sauce.

It is also acceptable to replace starch in desserts.

Gelatin can be used to thicken the mixture.

Chia or ground flax seeds can be added to puddings and other semi-liquid desserts. Just 2 tablespoons for every 150 ml of product will fix the situation.
