Today we will tell you about a new, but already proven method of cooking pearl barley.

This method will reduce the cooking time, preserve the beneficial properties of the product and improve its taste.

To prepare pearl barley porridge, the grain, of course, must be rinsed under cold water, which will wash away dust and other debris.

It would be better if you soak the pearl barley for 2-4 hours after this. This “procedure” is needed to soften the hard grains and speed up the cooking process.

After this, the cereal needs to be fried in a frying pan with the addition of vegetable or butter for 1-2 minutes. For 250-300 g of pearl barley, you will need 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil or a heaped teaspoon of butter.

All this time, the pearl barley needs to be stirred.

All that's left is to pour hot water over the pearl barley and let it cook. Average proportions are 3 cups of water per 1 cup of cereal.

At the end of cooking, add butter, cracklings with onions, fried bacon, mushrooms, chicken, liver to the pan – your choice.

Stir the dish and, covering with a lid, bring it to readiness.
