Greens are healthy, and that's a fact. In summer, you need to eat as much of them as possible to stock up on vitamins and cleanse your body of harmful substances.

One of the most useful plants is lettuce. It can be served as a side dish, added to vegetable dishes, etc. But sometimes the leaves are bitter.

There are a few tricks that can help you get rid of this taste, but first, let's look at the reasons.

Why is salad bitter?

The reason is the violation of agricultural technology. If the plant is sown directly under the sun or in dense shade, and also grown in the heat and with a moisture deficit, then all this will contribute to the accumulation of bitterness in the lettuce leaves.

What to do

1. Try chopping the greens in advance by tearing them with your hands and leaving them for 15-20 minutes. After that, you can mix them with other vegetables.

2. You can trim the roots, if there are any, and leave the leaves in a container with cold water. It is good to add a couple of drops of vinegar to the water.

3. You can place the plant in water with the roots for 2 hours and then keep it in water for the same amount of time without the roots – this way you can do without vinegar.

4. Soaking in salted water helps (1 tbsp. salt per 1 liter of water and 3-4 ice cubes). Soak the greens for 30-40 minutes.

5. If the salad is already ready and the bitterness is very pronounced, add a little lemon juice to the finished dish. Olive or nut oil also helps.

But we must not forget that bitter lettuce is just as healthy as non-bitter lettuce, and in terms of vitamin and other element content it is in no way inferior to greens grown in suitable conditions.
