A drink made from hibiscus petals, known as karkade tea, can be used to color eggs for Easter.
This method gives the shell a beautiful bluish tint. And if you use a little trick, a marble print will appear on the surface of the eggs.
First, take the eggs out of the refrigerator and let them warm up to room temperature. Wash them thoroughly. Also, erase all the labels if it is a factory product.
Hibiscus is poured into a saucepan, filled with water and placed on the stove. The task is to prepare a rich decoction, so about 40 g of raw material is used per 1 liter of liquid.
Place eggs in a saucepan with petals. To ensure a better result, try not to put too many eggs. For example, 4 eggs are enough for a medium saucepan.
When the water boils, reduce the heat to low and then cook for another 10 minutes. At the same time, cook another 4-6 eggs in clean water.
After 10 minutes, remove the pan from the heat. Remove two eggs from the liquid, and leave two more in the broth – they will acquire a richer shade.
If you prepare a decoction without eggs and then put them in the liquid, the shade will be different. To do this, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to 1 liter of decoction and then stir.
Boiled eggs are placed in the liquid and left in it for at least 20 minutes. The maximum is 2-2.5 hours.
For example, some cooks do it this way: the first one is taken out after 20 minutes, the second one after 40 minutes, the third one after 60 minutes, and the last one after 120 minutes.
There is a little trick that will give the painted eggs shine. For this you will need vegetable oil. You need to rub the egg shells with it. A small amount of vegetable oil is enough.
