As is known, a pacifier can satisfy a baby’s innate sucking reflex.

If this is new to you, then from this article you will learn what pacifiers there are and what to pay attention to when choosing them.

Types of pacifiers

Perhaps the most famous is the classic round pacifier. Despite all its advantages, this option is not suitable for babies with a low palate, since when sucking they can swallow air, which, in turn, causes bloating and colic in the abdomen.

If you see a pacifier with an elliptical bubble, it means that you have an anatomical model. Its upper, slightly rounded part should be located under the palate, and its slightly flattened lower part should be on the tongue. It becomes impossible to swallow air due to this shape.

Finally, you can find orthodontic pacifiers that have a slanted soft bubble that is slightly compressed on one side and has a bulge on the other. These pacifiers come in three shapes – cherries, hearts, and butterflies.

How to choose a pacifier

The first thing you should do when buying a pacifier is to pay attention to the packaging – it contains markings according to the baby’s weight and age. Thanks to it, you can choose the right size.

As for the shape, parents are powerless here - it is the baby who decides which pacifier he wants to put in his mouth. The reason is that children choose the shape of pacifiers that the mother's nipple takes during feeding, which, as you understand, is an individual parameter.
