An international group of scientists has come to the conclusion that coffee and tea lovers receive additional “bonuses” for protecting their health.
We are talking about one of the most common oncological diseases – head and neck cancer.
According to researchers, those who frequently consume the named hot drinks are much less likely to encounter this disease.
It should be noted that the term "head and neck cancer" refers to malignant tumors in the throat, larynx, nose, sinuses and mouth, or in these organs themselves.
This oncological disease is the 7th most common type of cancer in the world.
At the same time, according to the latest data, the number of diagnoses of head and neck cancer continues to increase.
And coffee and tea are able to effectively resist it. First of all, due to the bioactive compounds they contain.
The latter are believed to have antioxidant, oncoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties.
The scientists analyzed information from previous studies by their colleagues.
Specifically, they examined data on 9,548 patients with head and neck cancer and 15,783 control group participants without such a diagnosis.
It turned out that those who drank more than 4 cups of coffee every day had a 17% lower risk of developing head and neck cancer compared to those who did not drink coffee.
And the risk of developing cancer of the oral cavity and throat among lovers of this drink was 30% and 22% lower, respectively.
The risk of developing lower throat cancer was 41% lower in people who drank 3-4 cups of coffee a day.
Those who drink decaffeinated coffee have a 25% lower risk of developing oral cancer.
When it comes to tea, those who drank at least one cup a day had a lower risk of developing head and neck cancer overall.
However, drinking large amounts of tea, according to scientists, is associated with an increase in the likelihood of developing laryngeal cancer by almost 40%.
