Taking activated charcoal the morning after a party won't help with a hangover.
Vera Serezhina, a medical expert at the medical company LabQuest, warned about this.
Her statement is quoted by RIA Novosti .
Firstly, the myth about the benefits of activated carbon. As Serezhin explained, in the morning this remedy is ineffective, since the alcohol has already been absorbed into the blood.
Moreover, taking activated charcoal on an empty stomach can cause stomach problems, the doctor warned.
The second common misconception is about certain drinks and foods that can help you get rid of a hangover quickly.
Such means include, in particular, a small dose of alcohol and fatty foods.
In fact, drinking alcohol will lead to re-intoxication, and fatty foods will increase the load on the pancreas and liver.
Another myth is associated with the use of brine to restore salt balance.
Of course, electrolytes are important, but too much salt puts stress on the kidneys.
According to Serezina, truly effective hangover remedies are herbal teas, unsweetened fruit drinks, diluted lemon juice and plain water.
The main thing in the fight against a hangover is not treating the symptoms, but preventing excessive intoxication, the doctor noted.
