Victory over HIV? Scientists have created a drug that protects against infection by 100%.
Medicine may have made the breakthrough of the century. American scientists have created a drug that they claim provides 100% protection against HIV.
The authors of the new product are employees of the pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences.
The company is known for having previously developed drugs (in tablet form) called Truvada and Descovy, intended for the prevention of HIV.
And currently, clinical trials of the injectable drug Lenacapavir are being completed, ONT TV channel reports , citing New Atlas.
Scientists working on the development of this drug have published the results of the final stage of clinical trials of the drug.
They claim that the new product has demonstrated 100 percent protection against the human immunodeficiency virus.
The injection should be done twice a year.
It is noted that the drug was tested among girls aged 16 to 25. A total of 5,300 young women participated – no one became infected while using Lenacapavir.
Scientists also did not find any serious side effects.
The company intends to publish the results of testing its drug among men by the end of this year.
If they are equally successful, the drug will become widely available.
