American scientists are sounding the alarm: they are recording a significant increase in cancer incidence among young people around the world.

Oncology is spreading most actively among young people in the countries of North America, Western Europe and Australia.

This was reported by the TASS agency with reference to The Wall Street Journal.

Patients are getting younger

The newspaper writes that between 2000 and 2019, the number of cancer patients under the age of 50 increased by 12.8%.

Andrea Cerchek, a doctor at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, says patients are getting younger.

It's probably something to do with our environment, our food, our medications, or something we haven't identified yet," she said.

Her information was confirmed by Monique Gary, director of the oncology department at Grand View Health Hospital in Pennsylvania.

She noted that doctors are noting a continuing increase in cancer cases among young people.

This does not correspond to the classical understanding that cancer is a disease of the elderly, the expert said.

Why does this happen?

Scientists have put forward many hypotheses, including factors such as a sedentary lifestyle and the presence of microplastics in the air.

Thus, a link has already been proven between regular consumption of sugary drinks in adolescence and a higher risk of developing cancer.

In addition, according to researchers, there is also a link between excess weight and the occurrence of certain oncological diseases.

Earlier, Dr. Jenn Simmons and the author of a book on cancer prevention, Christina Marusich, named products that provoke the development of cancer.
