The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Belarus reminds road users of the dangers associated with the reduction of daylight hours.

And also that until September 24, preventive measures aimed at ensuring the safety of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users are being carried out throughout the country.

BELTA reports this with reference to the Main Directorate of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

State Traffic Inspectorate on the dangers associated with the reduction of daylight hours

As the State Traffic Inspectorate explained, on days when the traffic situation is complicated by autumn weather, drivers simply do not see a person walking near the road.

For the driver, dark objects on the road that do not have active light merge with the darkness and become almost invisible. Plus, the driver is blinded by the headlights of oncoming traffic.

A person walking along the road in the dark becomes visible to a driver at best 25-30 meters away.

At a speed of 90 kilometers per hour, the car covers this distance in about a second, which is too little time to take any action.

Even at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour, the braking distance of a car exceeds this distance.

Therefore, it is extremely important for pedestrians and cyclists to use reflective elements and wear them correctly.

The reflective element must be clearly visible from all sides. The reflective pendant is attached to clothing or a bag, the tape is tied on trousers or a sleeve.

It is better to use two or more reflectors at the same time.

White and lemon are the colors of reflectors that will really help to communicate your presence on the road, the State Traffic Inspectorate noted.

Cyclists must wear a reflective vest or clothing with reflective elements when riding on country roads.
