The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Belarus recommends that car owners consider changing their tires to winter ones.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this on Telegram.
Frosts down to -5 degrees are expected in Belarus on Thursday night, with fog in the morning.
In such conditions, the traffic police warned, summer tires “harden” and stop providing adequate traction on the road.
Temperature changes combined with humid air can lead to sudden icing of the roadway. With a sharp change in direction and speed, the risk of skidding increases.
Therefore, car owners are already advised to think about changing their tires to winter ones, the State Traffic Inspectorate explained.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate also recommends that drivers switch to a calmer driving style: choose a safe speed, keep a safe distance, avoid abrupt maneuvers, especially near pedestrian crossings, in windy areas, road curves, bridges and overpasses.
The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds that all persons in the car must be fastened. Special restraining devices must be used to transport children under 12 years of age.
Drivers should also remember that distances are distorted in fog. When driving in fog, you should reduce speed and turn on low beams and fog lights.
The State Traffic Inspectorate noted that pedestrians also need to take care of their safety on cloudy autumn days: wear bright clothes, use reflective elements, do not walk on the road, cross the road only in permitted places and make sure that drivers have time to stop.
